Dance Prism's The Nutcracker
Dance Prism's The Nutcracker
Dance Prism’s presentation of The Nutcracker, celebrating its 35th season this year, is a fully staged professional production featuring a lively choreography, Tchaikovsky’s beloved music, and the traditional delights of this favorite holiday tradition. Dance Prism's Nutcracker offers an affordable family friendly opportunity to celebrate the holidays with a production enjoyed throughout New England since 1982.

The performance follows Clara's magical journey from a traditional 19th century Christmas party through a fantastic
battle of toy soldiers and giant mice and a voyage through the ethereal kingdom of Snow, arriving finally at the Land of the Sugarplum Fairy where sweets from all lands come to life and dance in her honor. In her travels she is enchanted by a growing Christmas tree, a reindeer drawn sleigh amid a swirling snowstorm, and the clash of swords as a menacing Rat King battles the valiant Nutcracker Prince. Tchaikovsky's exquisite score accompanies a cast of 125 professional and pre-professional dancers, supported by serious ballet students who audition annually for children’s roles.

Young audience members are invited to meet Clara, the Sugarplum Fairy, and the Nutcracker Prince following
the performance. Tun time of The Nutcracker is 90 minutes, not including an optimally 15 minute intermission or the post-performance
opportunity to meet principal dancers.
